PE- Standing Long Jump

Image
Today, Year 3 looked at their jumping skills and how they can apply them to standing long jump. After a quick chat about technique and the importance of using our arms to balance, the children were away! There were some amazing distances!

PSHE- Safety at Home

Image
Today, we looked at how certain things in our home can be dangerous without correct supervision. We were super surprised at how many things could potentially be dangerous!

Countries of the World

Image
What a brilliant lesson where the children used atlases to find countries of the world. Using their atlases they described the shape and size as well as which hemisphere the  countries could be found. As a class we looked at the word ‘landlocked’ and identified the countries that are landlocked.  Great work today from both classes, lots of dojos earned.

COMPUTING - Individual Challenge

Image
An exciting afternoon complete with a variety of activities for Year 3 today. We were challenged to use either Scratch or Creative Cloud to create something new, or use Interland to expand our knowledge of online safety. It was great fun to work alongside our friends and to have an opportunity to apply all of our computing skills learned this year.

Geography Fieldwork trip

Image
Year 3 had an amazing time on their trip to Robin Hill.  With their Geography and Science hats on, they set to work putting all their skills and knowledge to the test. They carefully looked at all of the different plants that grow naturally in our climate and discussed how these can vary from the other types that grow in more tropical climates. Using Mrs Loizos’s and Mr Speer’s clever app, they also measured the light levels in different parts of the park. Finally, they compared two types of forests as well as completing a detailed sketch.  We also had a quick go at summoning our inner squirrels on the squirrel tower. We finished the day with an ice cream in the shade 🍦  A huge thank you to Mrs Gregory and Mrs Loizos for organising such a brilliant visit and a massive thanks to all the adults who came along.

Geography - Temperate Deciduous Forests

Image
Today, the children researched all about temperate deciduous forests as they will be carrying out an investigation on Wednesday at Robin Hill to compare two types of forests. A temperate deciduous forest is a biome that has many deciduous trees which lose their leaves in the fall. These forests are also known as broad-leaf forests because the trees have wide, flat leaves. Temperate deciduous forests are found in the temperate zone of the Earth: where we live.  Looking forward to our trip on Wednesday Year 3.

English- researching

This week, the children honed their researching skills. The children were looking at pollution and all of the different aspects of our wonderful planet. We used the iPads to help up research and we also had access to some beautifully illustrated encyclopaedias. The children collected lots of facts about mountains, rivers, climates and even some about atmospheric gases.
