Geography - Layers of the Rainfores

What an interesting lesson learning about the four layers of the Rainforest. Over half the world’s species can be found there.

The forest floor has very little light and there are not many plants. It is home to the larger animals.

The Understory has little light and you will find bushes and shrubs as well as young trees groaning there. Most of the animals need to be able to camouflage.

Whilst in the Canopy there are lots of tall trees which block o it the sunlight. Most of the animal life can be found here.

At the very top is the Emergent layer. Up here, the tree tops receive most of the sunlight, wind and high temperatures. It is h one to birds, bats, butterflies and monkeys. We then watched a film showing some of the animals that live in the Rainforest and their sounds.

Well done Year 3.
